March News

Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z-Z. Hey! Welcome to Wednesday and welcome to the email list. After two sold out shows at the Old Town School, packed houses in Denver, and an amazing event in Houston, we've been having a bonafide blast this winter. But, we are also trying to catch up on our sleep before we head to Portsmouth, NH and Boston, MA this weekend and then on to Washington, DC (2 of 3 shows are SOLD OUT) and Philadelphia, PA next. In April, we'll be in Des Moines, IA; Iowa City, IA; Glenview, IL; and Los Angeles, CA; Then Carborro, NC; Minneapolis, MN and more in May!! Do we ever rest?? Yes. On Wednesdays. Z-Z-Z-Z-Z. Oh wait, the new CD, a video, a contest, and more. No time for sleeping. Good news is coming, including:

2. Want to be in the new pop fly video?

Well, kind of. Our very own giant-shoed trumpet playing king of a melodica player is making a very strange and wonderful music video for pop fly. He wants to assemble a crowd of faces for the stadium. Here's where you come in, send him a close up picture of your child or your inner-child (dave says "like a really excited headshot, you're at a baseball game. Like something great just happened. Hooray.") And he will assemble these into a giant collage. Think "the cover of sgt. pepper's." By sending a photo, you are giving dave the full rights to use this image in the pop fly video. We can't guarantee that every photo will be used but Dave will try. Dave always tries. Send your pop-fly-video-headshot-photo to daveintransit@yahoo.com.

3. Booking Justin & the Band! Important info, please read.

We are sad to announce that our wonderful booking agent and friend Michael O'Brien has left Thruline Entertainment. We know how many of you enjoyed working with him and we do wish him the best. Unfortunately, there has been much confusion at Thruline headquarters during the transition. If you sent an email or left a voice message about booking the band, it may not have been received. So now we want to introduce you to Michael's replacement, Elizabeth and give you her NEW CONTACT INFO. If you are interested in bringing Justin and the band to your town, don't hesitate to give Elizabeth a ring or drop her an email. She is sure to help make it happen. Also if you know a great kids festival or venue that has family shows, you can send that info along too.

Jan 2008

Hello,

Happy New Year everybody! He had one heck of a time in Carlsbad, CA at Legoland ringing in the new year at 6pm Pacific. There were fireworks, lots of dancing, and many miniture lego cities to be had. Just check out this photo. What could be more fun than putting a hand on your head to bring in 2008? Jackie doesn't seem to think it's so amusing. But the rest of us enjoyed it.

All that and ... our new CD, POP FLY, has an actual release date now. Tuesday April 15th. Tax Day and the first month of Baseball Season. What could be better. Well, maybe just baseball season without the tax day OR the cd coming out tomorrow. But at least it's easy to remember. Stand in line at the post office for 2 hours with your certified mail tax forms and then drop by your favorite record store or bookstore or toystore and grab a copy of POP FLY. For you hip modern men and women, you will also be able to find it on iTunes. The cover art (by sarajo frieden) is spellbinding as usual. Since you are on the email list, you'll be the first to hear samples and we'll have a track listing and other fun stuff in the next email!

But first, don't forget to grab your tickets for our FEBRUARY show at the Old Town School in Chicago (remember it's earlier this year in feb instead of march) and for those of you long distance friends who can't make it out to Chicago check out some of our other winter dates!

Contest Drawing, Martyrs and More

Hello,

1. JR & the NR4NP AT MARTYRS IN CHICAGO THIS SAT DEC 8th!!
2. RING IN THE NEW YEAR AT LEGOLAND in SAN DIEGO or on XMRADIO!!
3. DRAWING CONTEST!! (also know as the contest that never ends)

Hi folks,

We just returned from a rocking good time in our nation's capitol. Two
sold out shows at National Geographic Live and a visit to XMRadio. It
was a jam packed 24 hours filled with a lot of marvelous moments. DC
really rocks.

1. MARTYRS CHICAGO

We will be playing our last Chicago show of 2007 on Saturday December
8th at Martyrs. As many of you know, this is a fantatically intimate
venue with incredible sound. The whole band will be there, we'll be
playing a few brand new tunes from the upcoming record, many of your old
favorites, and maybe even a special holiday song featuring liam's lovely
falsetto. Please get your tickets now as this event sold out in advance
last time and we don't want you to miss it. We are also taking requests,
so drop us a line if you are coming out. We can't play everything but we
will certainly try.

Sat Dec 8th 2007 11am
Martyrs'
3855 N Lincoln Avenue
Chicago, IL
773.404.9494
http://www.martyrslive.com

2. NEW YEARS IN CA OR ON XMRADIO

You can join us to celebrate the new year in person at Legoland in
Carlsbad, CA or virutally on XMRadio (where big-shoed Dave will do a
rousing version of Auld Lang Syne on the Melodica). It's not to be
missed (if you go for that sort of thing). More XM info coming soon. For
info on Legoland go to www.legoland.com

3. ART CONTEST

Finally the contest that never ends is finally ending. As I watched the
drawings pile up, I soon realized I had no idea how I was going to get
these pieces of art on my website. Let alone keep track of who did what.
I sorted through it all so if you get a poster addressed to Henrick and
your child's name is Emily I take full responsiblity. Also, if the
scanned version on the website looks like 1/4 of your picture that is
because you drew it on a very big piece of paper. Now I know why most
contests have rules. Hmmm.

Either way, every family will be getting a poster with a personal note
from me and a stick figure drawing (also done by me) of whatever song
your child/children chose to draw. You'll see that my ability to draw
has not changed from the time I learned to hold a pen and most of the
kids can draw more accurately than I can. But, my ineptitute may elicit
laughter which is always fun.

Speaking of fun it was really fun to see the interpretations of popular
favorites like "yellow bus" and "meltdown" alongside more obscure
numbers like "roller in the coaster" and "kitty kat, kitty kat." We had
one entry where the artist did a french translation of my a,b,c,d,e song
(et la chanson va) and another that was like abstract modern art
entitled: "tie your shoe." The artist might say it was more about the
process than the final piece. But, I'll leave that up to the
professional art critics. If it was my shoestring that looked like that
I'd probably leave it be. All of the art received will be posted on the
website later in the week so everyone can bask in the glow. Right now a
computer genius is transforming all your lovely magic into 0s and 1s and
crazy html code so we can all enjoy the beauty on the world wide web.
Check www.justinrobertsmusic.com later in the week for the latest link
to that stuff.

As for the picking so-called winners, this was really hard. As you'll
see, there were so many awesome pictures. I should have had age groups
and a whole bunch of other rules (like full name and contact information
on each artwork, oops.) so I could have picked in different categories.
Instead, I chose via whimsy. Anyway, EVERYONE wins a personalized
poster. And I picked 1 grand prized winner and 3 runner-ups. If you are
one of these winners please respond to this email and you can pick your
prize.

Here are the winners:

Grand Prize
Sophie Utsinger
Kitty Kat, Kitty Kat (from Great Big Sun)
Bettendorf, IA
Breathtaking watercolor rendition of kitty kat, kitty kat from Great Big
Sun. Sorry this scan is only part of the image and the colors are not
right. But, hopefully you'll get the idea.
<http://www.justinrobertsmusic.com/emailjpg/sophie.jpg>

Runner-up
Hayley Kahnis
Billy was a Bully (from Not Naptime)
Setauket, NY
Girl power! Sally McCabe in all her glory. Love it.
<http://www.justinrobertsmusic.com/emailjpg/bully.jpg>

Runner-up
Lucy O'Brien
My Brother Did it (Meltdown!)
Saugus, CA
Lucy did four fabulous paintings and drawings, but it was her simple
line drawing of my brother did it that won me over. I hope you can see
the expressions on their faces in this very small scan. If not, be sure
to check it out when we have everything on the website. Wow!
<http://www.justinrobertsmusic.com/emailjpg/brother.jpg>

Runner-Up
Will Lillis
Willy Was a Whale (Yellow Bus)
Bloomington, IN
This Matisse-like "willy" really grabbed my eye. He looks concerned. As
he should be. He's at the bottom of the sea.
<http://www.justinrobertsmusic.com/emailjpg/willy.jpg>

Runner-up
Charlotte Grace Fox
Little Raindrop (Great Big Sun)
Cary, NC
This very big raindrop made me laugh. It's full of the kind of whimsy I
wish we all had a little more of.
<http://www.justinrobertsmusic.com/emailjpg/charlotte.jpg>

Rock on to everyone who sent in a picture. I could have easily picked
any of them as winners. I'll come up with other creative contests in the
future because it's so fun to see what you all create. But, next time
I'll have better rules.

Thanks for all your support in 2007, looking forward to seeing you all
soon. If not this year, then next.

keep listening,

Justin
